The BP Deepwater Horizon spill has been a salutary lesson in pointing out the oil industry's inability to regulate themselves, much in the same way that the banking crisis showed that banks were incapable of sound behaviour without regulation.

However, we're not going to regulate either. Trebles all round, last man left standing is the winner.

I think I may have to go find the post I originally made over at TP about this. I thought it was obviously criminal negligence from the start. But the corporate apologists apparently only think colored folk are responsible for their own actions.

The well failure got them banned from offshore drilling in Canada. We under-regulate but....

actually there's a lot of investigation going on here about what this means. We have some very extensive offshore on the East Coast and it's looking like we're going Arctic soon. This is delaying things - which is good.

Dick Cheney's company (also responsible for some really, REALLY bloody things in Iraq) involved here? That's a surprise.
