Alas, the events are now not only real, but legendary: even the names haven't been changed. Before Jeremy and Max succumbed to their respective madnesses (for they are indeed now both mad) they recounted the tale to others, so I had to turn it into firstly an after-dinner-story (and I dined out on it for a few years) and secondly a nasty piece of blank verse.
