I put this advert on 'Join My Band'.

"Professional Guitarist, ex-names, first call for sessions at Tin Pan Alley Studios, etc, forming a project to play jazz influenced rock. Serious players only. Keys (Hammond/piano), Bass, & Drums wanted."

Now let's wait and see the response.

The thing is most of my pro chums need paying as they have families/kids etc to support, and I'm looking to put together a gigging band for fun, musical exploring, and to cover expenses: so there won't be any money to pay folk until I've got some from it myself.

Can't see very much happening, but who knows?

Perhaps some talented newbs willing to take a chance on the money for experience will show up? =]

If I lived nearer, I'd probably offer to get involved ...

If you had lived closer I would have asked you first.
Hope all is well with you.

Typical setup around here is that you don't get paid unless you are good enough to make it through until you do your first gig. At which, everyone splits the cash upon completing the show. Generally, the issues with folks here also, is finding a good guitarist who isn't a complete and total ego-maniac. Nor a player who gets too drunk/stoned to play.

If you can get yourself a drummer, and a singer, the three of you could play very small clubs. The bar I work for hires incomplete bands, just duo's and such to play. The pay works out to roughly $80 per person for 4 hours of playing. Nothing fantastic, but for two people, it's a chance to play for the love of it and make some extra cash. For the guys with families, its cash for the family to go out to dinner and enjoy themselves. The ones who are old enough to actually get to the bar and have dinner and a cocktail do so while the band is playing as well.

That's pretty much the scene in the UK, but for folk under 30 or so. For folk older than that....well, it gets a bit more difficult. Such is. Hope all is well with the movie-making.
