Scott Lively, Don Schmierer, and Caleb Lee Brundidge probably think they're doing the work of the Lord by exporting this sort of re-inforcing hate message to a country which already has almost no toleration of homosexuality. I happen to think that they'll spend a lot longer in purgatory than gay folk. Aeons uncounted, even.

The quotes from James Nsaba Buturo, the minister of state for ethics and integrity, are revealing both in their ignorance and their oppressiveness.

"We are talking about anal sex. Not even animals do that"

"We believe there are limits to human rights."

I'm sure folk can find their own examples of anal sex in the animal kingdom....Google is pretty good on such things. As for countries which believe Human Rights are all a bit much really, the list is long, and Uganda is evidently trying to be in the lead.

Primates do. Much rarer that buggery, but yes.

Lady Triphicus has ferrets for pets. She may well be playing at disingenuousness. (She is also the possessor of the most natural goodness in anyone I've come across on LJ.)

She's a well-trained scholar, I am sure, and probably quite Socratic in her approach.

None of us is above substantiating our claims and I take no offense at being challenged to substantiate, or at least clarify mine.

Apparently male giraffes are almost all gay. And male bison definitely take it in the ass.

There are giraffes in Uganda, and their habits are well known, so Buturo is either extremely ignorant of the fauna of his country, or he's telling porkies for his own purposes.

The evil men do lives after them. Dammit.

There is a very good sketch by Ricky Gervais in his show 'Animals' in which he shows some choice excerpts from a book he found, the title of which is along the lines of "Deviant Sexual Behaviour in the Animal Kingdom." My favourite example is of a whale having sex with another whale's blowhole.

I've heard that some of the US-based evangelist movement has a say in this. And that saddlebacker, Rick Warren, has stated that he won't condemn it because he doesn't want to interfere in what another sovereign nation does (unless they're telling them to Not Have Abortions, natch).
