And as antidote to that piece of cynicism a rather better goodbye. The spelling is pretty authentic with only one anachronism.

The Metaphysical Farewell

Petals Strewne before your passinge feet

To cushionne those softe soles from this bayse earth

Forfende that baysenesse and your grayce shulde mete

Asunder, destyned, separate from birthe

Shuldst tread on flower’s reignment for want of angell’s winges.

Beautie clothe your form, enhans your face;

Be givinge of your harte and free from scorne,

Happinesse attende you and magnyfie your grayce

Untill it sparks withinne, like some fire borne

From puritie and light, consuming earthlie thinges.

Love be your lodestone, poyntinge ever trew

Upward to the pole which topps our spheare;

The kingdoms of the worlde, reduced to view

Your playgrounde whereinne happinesse is neare

Which is what I pray your future bringes.

Replace 'playgrounde' with 'gardenne' and you stay in period.

I did wonder if, 'pon second look, it had a sting in the tail: the present and the future being different things. I hope it is generous, but there's often a little 'side' to these things, even if not consciously or deliberatelt meant.
Toodle-pip.

Think John Donne or Andrew Marvell.
