Gigging tonight at the Café Royal in Regent's Street. Complete with congestion charge, parking, fuel, etc, and all the added extras we have come to know and love whenever the function band plays in town.
Session at Alan's tomorrow.
Gods, I may just start earning my keep again if this continues.

I survived last year on about $12-16,000 max. It was quite difficult. Break-even is about $16,000 (I'm a home owner and costs can get quite expensive). So that took a chunk out of my savings, which were pitiful in the first place.
All I need to do is tick over: don't need health insurance as I live in a civilised country; don't have to put kids through school; don't have an expensive girlfriend; don't need luxuries; don't need much, actually. Am content if I can save a bit for the bad times and afford some of the books I covet....and that's it.

is that the really plush underground one people used to shelter from bombs in during the war? pretty in gold and red?

Indeed, but we were in the 'Louis' suite on the second floor, which is mirrored and much more 'Second Empire' than the red-gold downstairs.
