Tuesday was Felix's birthday.
We went out for supper at an Indian restaurant near him I gave him two classical guitar/lute compendia from the baroque period. He seemed pleased, which was good. I now need to find a nice F. Scott Fitzgerald edition for a goddaughter. However, for the first time in ages I'm relatively poor.
The reasons for this are as follows. Much of my disposable income is derived from rent. In her work, my tenant is contracted by an agency, which banked with NatWest. In the last few weeks, as some may have heard, NatWest suffered a bit of a fuck-up vis-a-vis the RBS IT meltdown. Ergo, my tenant's salary was delayed in getting to her. She has a standing order at her bank to deposit money directly into my account, from which I have my pin-money. Normally, that account is in credit to a few thou or so, but of late, I've had baby stuff to do, important birthdays to do proper service to, and other sundry expenses: so for the first time in years I'm running close to the fine end, so to speak. And as we all know, standing orders go out on a certain date, and that date is now long past. Never mind.
I've told m'tenant that she should not go into debt about all of this. She has been a neat and quiet tenant: the kind with whom any landlord would be happy. But it leaves me slightly short and the boy dependent entirely on SWMBO, which rather rankles. Oh well, I console myself in that at least I'm not adding to the sum of human misery: besides, it will do me good to realise how thin the veneer of my financial independence actually is.
Go well, and do good things.
