I found out that the band leave for Cannes from Gatwick next Thursday morning at 7am. We're onstage at 10pm. Thursday's going to be a long day. Airport 2 hrs before take-off for check in, and come offstage at 1am next morning. No wonder so many bands live on Columbian marching powder. I'm too old for such things (the headaches, my dears) so I shall head to the hotel and try to get three or four hours sleep in the afternoon. Who knows what the rest of the band will do? As long as  they play well I don't really mind. I'll give 'em my advice but I doubt that will influence them overmuch. Though actually, as we'll be in a foreign land they won't have any opportunity to behave badly in an chemical fashion. Of course, there will be bucketloads of booze for those that way inclined, but I'm a quality not quantity man.
Transporting kit is the biggest problem I face in gigs abroad. I can hire amps, but I need to take my own guitar and fx. I think I'll leave my no.1 Strat at home though. My second will do.

I have to look up various folk when I'm in Cannes. Stephen has a cousin out there, and there are a few chums who have ended up in the South of France, sunning themselves on beaches and doing very little. Will check out who's about.

Looking forward to it really, and I have all Friday to wander around looking for bookshops. (This was a particular hobby of mine, when on tour.)

Still....virtual books from here on in....maybe. Apart from firsts, of course.

They've bought tickets with 'EasyJet'. Oh bliss. I'm six two. An EasyJet seat plus guitar is going to be somewhat cramped.

Ahh! Then second thoughts run to French Hotel Food. And then the fingers get crossed and one hopes that the French are actually running the Hotel we're staying at, rather than some cost-cutting, accountant led, cheese-paring, penny pinching, in-thrall-to-the-shareholders Anglo-American type of operation that'll put a rubber croissant on your breakfast table, next to an idea of coffee that even wartime Britain would have had difficulty in swallowing, despite the fact that British coffee during the war was made of toasted acorns and chicory.

Gatwick is 20 minutes from my house at that time of the morning, and I am happy to get up and take you (I have worked out what time that would be). You are very welcome to stay at my place on Wednesday night, avoid at least half an hour of travelling and the car parking charges, and have someone make you a cup of tea before you have to get up at oh-my-god-o'clock in the morning. I do mean it - you can have my bed and I'll sleep in H's - I'd make it the other way but see aforementioned six two comment plus the bunk thing makes it worth having done it before and remembering not to sit up too fast in the morning.

Ah the Côte d'Azur....sunshine, beaches, attractive and intelligent women....well two out of three ain't bad, and even in March there will be sunshine and beaches.

Yes, I suppose the Grimaldis do keep a place in the South of France, don't they? And they do rather let the rest of us play there if we have the money. Genoa is not Venice, though, for all its continual political power. The Grimaldis were Guelphs, which by default, we Brits are too: Hapsburgs being Guelph in name. So we like it there: well, I do anyway.
