(no subject)
Jan. 21st, 2008 01:52 pmI haven't been posting very regularly of late: probably to the relief of all those on my F-list.
Though many things happen to us all, including me, I find that even I am bored by recounting them to other people: I would hate to be the audience in that case.
Which brings me to the question: what is interesting about my life?
My chums, certainly. My family, perhaps.
I live small.
I have a subsistence level income, which I can get by on, owning my property, as I do.
I read, I write, I practise my instrument when I can be motivated. I teach occasionally, and sometimes I gig.
When Dad died, he asked me to promise to look after the Mother, who is disabled. So I cook for her and generally help out. (She has a cleaner: Dad left her wealthier than I am, thankfully.)
But try as I might, I cannot sustain misery for too long.
Middle aged, middle class, middling intellect, but with a pretty good library: believe me, it's not a bad life, but I doubt it would suit any but me or perhaps
shoarthing , who is in a similar situation, excepting he has better than a middling intellect.
Some would also say that neither he nor I are middle-class, but given my income, I can hardly be called upper-class by anyone, no matter how much they object to my patrician accent.

There is a tide in the affairs of men,
Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune;
Omitted, all the voyage of their life
Is bound in shallows and in miseries.
But try as I might, I cannot sustain misery for too long.
