I think that if every professional musician who plays a valuable instrument were to boycott travelling to or via Germany, the authorities there would soon sort this out.

Amazing how customs and exise folk worldwide seem to have little common sense and absolutely no understanding of culture.

Given that Bartolomeo Guarneri del Gesu is credited with finishing one of his father's cellos, and that was his only cello, I'd guess that to be one of the most expensive cellos in existence.

No doubt the customs folk would have tried to impose an even greater tax on it.

This is one reason I hate leaving my country: wankers checking folk at every border crossing, with possibly the worst of them being the British ones, though these German chaps seem to be running a close second.
