At the moment.

Is the Middle-East going to explode? Will Iran and the US find some lasting peace with both being led by unstable leaders?

And the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have decided that they are going to step back from Royal duties to spend more time in America.

As to the former, that is one of those chaotic and unpredictable situations. Who knows? We could all blow up tomorrow.

But what is definitely true is that alone of all the species on the planet, we don't need an extrinsic disaster like a dinosaur-killing meteorite to destroy almost all life on earth - we know we can do it all by ourselves. Such puissance, such hubris; such is our inheritance.

As for Harry and Meghan, well, as long as they haven't truly offended Her Maj, this looks like a good thing. Meghan has future POTUS written all through her bones like the lettering in a stick of seaside rock. If others can't see that yet, they just aren't looking too closely. They have always needed to relocate to America. I think they need to move to the US rather than Canada, obvs, but the narrative is looking compelling. Trump has messed enough with the Emolument clauses to make an American who renounces a foreign title for her home nation, and brings her love back home with her, a potential patriot of a different order. This story could write itself. If they can only manage it without offending Her Maj.

Harry is functionally unemployable, but will make a great first spouse. And he happens to be a decent, noble, and honourable human being of the first order. But he can't take a job at Walmart. I guess Brian has to give them a sensible settlement paid annually until they are sorted. But to reassure Her Maj, should any of her folk happen to stumble upon this, this is maybe the opportunity for the long reconciliation of the US and UK to blossom properly. The Family can support Meghan and Harry personally, but some distance (to enable Meghan to really get going) may help.

But by the bye, that lass is going all the way. I'm not surprised our Hal is besotted. She needs an eight year programme and a twelve year one. If Harry is with her, she has the sort of ally that few of us manage. If Robert Jordan had written a fantasy pot-boiler about a lass destined for great things he couldn't have produced a more compelling plot.

If, as the great philosopher Pratchett opined, it's all about narrative imperative, and that is divided between competing narratives in a dog eat dog evolutionary battlefield, Meghan has the most compelling narrative of anyone currently alive. That Greta Thunberg lass is getting pretty close. And both of them knock Madame la Kardashian et al into a cocked hat. As is I am far too solipsistic to read the details of anyone else's life unless I respect their work. Madame Kardashian has an æsthetically pleasing form; what details do I need beyond a picture to assure me of that? Greta has something to say; and I am prepared to read that and see if I can look for answers to assist her. Lady Sussex is obviously a force of nature incarnate in a human. What were the omens when she was born? I doubt she needs help from me, but if I were an American, with a habit of looking for, and backing, winners; I'd jump aboard for the ride. She won't be tractable; you can't buy her. You have to persuade her and argue your case. So if you are really an ethically-minded political investor you won't be able to find better. If Brian has settled enough on them so they can really do this, he may prove to be the most far-sighted of the Royal family yet. Of course, like all the times Casey steps up to the bat, things may go awry; but I guess the chaps have give it a go.

The long reconciliation continues anyway, with the odd few bumps in the road.

I can't wait for Harry's first stint in rehab! 😃

He seems to have inherited his mother's instability. (And I must say, I've never understood Diana's appeal. She always seemed like an Indian cow to me—bovine and worshipped.)

I think you overestimate Meghan's base. 😃 I have no doubt that she can carve our an Oprah-like niche that will propel her to billionaire status, but American politics? Nah.
