When people talk about guitar gods - they mean guys like this, don't they?

There aren't many guys like this. Guitar gods are one rung lower (Danny Gatton etc). There isn't a name for this. We devalue our superlatives by overuse, and when something truly extraordinary comes along our language is unable to name or describe it.

I think I'll go with my original instinct and say
Guitar wizard.

(same concept as per fencing wizard)

and yes you're absolutely right - superlatives are devalued by overuse.
