I've just watched a documentary from Channel 4's Cutting Edge called 'A Boy Called Alex'.

Alex Stobbs achieved a musical scholarship to Eton: unfortunately he hasn't yet managed to complete a full term as Cystic_fibrosis is slowly and painfully destroying his lungs, and will probably kill him. But his ambition was to conduct Bach's 'Magnificat' in the college chapel.

Okay, he's a bit privileged in some respects. He's also going to have a shorter life than the rest of us. But if you want to know about a young chap who, apart from his musical genius, is the most courageous dude I've seen in a long time, watch it: especially if you like Bach.

Alex nearly died twice during the filming.

I don't know if folk in America can obtain or view this documentary: but if you can, do so.
I tip my hat to the young man. It's not often I find myself in awestruck admiration of someone who is sixteen.

Even a brief flash beats a long life of hardship and sorrow (or a short life of same).
He's inspiring - and he's -right-. Music is life.

I'd love to be able to watch this - but c'est la vie, n'est-ce pas?
