Erk.

Just back from Motion Studios where I've been transposing songs to fit a specific lady singer's range. Which has also given me a chance to do some thinking about other things, as it seems I must.

When a lady drops a handkerchief it is encumbent upon a chap to pick it up and return it....if the chap in question is anywhere near at hand. I think the word I might be stretching for is propinquity. And always provided creaky and middle-aged limbs function well enough to facilitate such a restoration.

Hmmm.

Nah, it is because I is black.

I haven't been in love since year two. Nor do I think I am any longer liable to such. But I can still pick up a Lady's hankie without either impugning her honour or commiting myself to something inappropriate. The difficulty is always in framing how one thanks the person for the compliment, whilst pointing out the inadvisability and impracticability of such an arrangement. Then honour is satified on both sides.

that is immensely labyrinthine. you live in a jane austin novel.
i am thinking of posting a call to provide a husband. in that same vein of a man having a certain means being in need of a wife, i find i am a housewife without portfolio. i do not, however, actually want to live in a jane austin novel too many rules.

True about things being labyrinthine: manners often lead us to such mazes. Courtesy is such a deadly game.

Speaking of life in a Jane Austen novel... A few days ago I watched the 2007 BBC production of Persuasion. I found it quite disappointing. Your Jane Austen life is likely better done then that was.

There was a much better Persuasion done a few years previously, in fact:

there you go.

Stephen H. raved about it to such an extent I had to get it out on DVD. And upon watching, I agreed with him.

Persuasion is possibly my favourite novel.
