Having put my name to a comment on a post in [livejournal.com profile] talk_politics  I feel I should add something.

I was born on the 21st November 1961, when this man was Prime Minister. I don't know if that fact has anything to do with my mature politics, but I do know that, along with Winston Churchill, Supermac is the Prime Minister of the UK that I most admire in the 20th Century. And I accept that he got more than a few things horrendously wrong, including the repatriation of White Russians after WWII.

But he cared. And he did his duty.

I wonder if conservatives in the US could ever mount anything similar to a "One Nation" politic.

Perhaps, because the US is a federation of states, it would be difficult. But FDR doesn't seem a million miles away: patrician, committed to the common good, aware of the needs of the humblest as well as the demands of the mighty. Actually, Eleanor seems even more on the money.
Mark ([livejournal.com profile] vox_diabolica) got me right off the bat. Bright lad, that.

Mark is, as the saying has it, all growed up now and hardly participates in LJ stuff from his hideaway in Australia.

However, he can be found here:

But rarely does the oracle speak....:)
Of the three that I friended from [livejournal.com profile] convert_me on that fateful day, Stephen [livejournal.com profile] essius still posts regularly. [livejournal.com profile] triphicus is more sporadic.
