I wonder what the pay for folk higher-up the Cambridge ladder is? I mean, I don't see many Vice-Chancellors with the same money problems.
Turn them all back into monks with vows of poverty. Especially the folk at the top. Or maybe be a bit more reasonable.
I'd love some of those Dons, Chancellors, and those with tenure to be forced into Chastity, Abstinence, and Poverty; just like all the Junior lecturers and teachers at Cambridge U who haven't got private incomes.
About time there was a bit of a row about this. And about time that folk from abroad were appraised of this circumstance before investing in their kid's tertiary education.
We value education so much in this country that we are happy to let our teachers starve.

We were the fifth biggest world economy before the insanity of Brexit. This circumstance hasn't happened overnight. Let's see how our present generation of politicians spread the blame.

Oh, right. They actually don't care.

Date: 2019-07-08 09:36 am (UTC)I’ve seen the way things are going. The best place to sit out the next few years is to be right next to a large pile of money; and to have the wit to use it to your advantage. But I think it will help if you are white, male, heterosexual, and Christian.
I’m trying hard to be in none of those categories. Not completely successful as yet, but I’ll give it a go.
I want nothing in common with the sort of people who will ignore the needs of society for some short-term gain; I’ve met a few of them, and I’m still trying to get over it. I’m also coming to the conclusion that I want nothing to do with what feminists rightly call the patriarchy.
Nevertheless I want my kids to be educated not just properly, but in a place of educational excellence. I don’t care about snobbery excepting as an Edwardian parlour game. I do care about children’s intellects; and kids need to be in places that nurture, or even stretch them.
I’ll be surprised if H gets a scholarship, because he’s a lazy blighter. That happens. So I’ll live on baked beans and dry bread for a few years to ensure his fees can be paid. Just so he can waste it all on being a
guitaristprofessional gamer, or whatever creative way is currently in vogue by which we can waste our expensive educations.
