Started cataloging the novels.
I'm 1156 books into the project - almost halfway I think. Most of the reference part of my library is on, with some exceptions. Also things like The Academic American Encyclopedia, which is in 21 Volumes. (I have a copy of it for two reasons: firstly because Robin Buss, a mentor, wrote the entry on P G Wodehouse; and secondly and more pertinently, because it came to me via a house clearance.)

If anyone's interested it's here:

It is a lending library, but only to very good chums; and with a proviso that books of value, alas, are not for lending.
And you'd have to pay your own postage too. So in general it's rather better if you live in or around London, I suppose.

I need to LibaryThing my books, I think. I've tried to write my own library software and, well, it's a tedious task and there's better out there.

Library thing isn't perfect. It has yet to offer an option to catalogue under one author (in the normal way of a library - all the books by one author together - then cross referenced for gtype genre etc) unless you use 'tags'. But it ain't bad.

How much would the postage be for the Academic American Encyclopedia? Send it on over to California, as I need some summer reading.

Oh, but given how much time I am able to put towards reading these days, I'd need to keep it for awhile.

It is a full Yard by 14" x 10" and weighs 80lb as a guess, so the postage would cost more than its value. You could get a set second hand on ABE books for between $1 and $750 with a good set for about $85....

Check it, My Dear...if you really want a copy.

I don't think it would fit in my house.

I think I'm jealous of your collection...

I'm a forty-five year old man, and I've been building my library since I was twelve. When you are my age, I'll bet your library will be full of all the books that you envy in my library, and then a few more. My books have followed me through school, adolescence, and many relationships and changes of address.
As Samson was to hair.....I have a similar relationship with my Library.
It does instead of an external hard drive.
