Aug. 8th, 2007 08:19 amI have a number of godchildren.
It has been a source of pleasure watching them grow up; a bit like remote control gardening, and infinitely more rewarding than watching reality Television; mainly because the advertisement breaks can last for months at a time. However, as with all these things, and as with one's chums, there is an emotional investment that one has in their wellbeing.
Sometimes folk go through rocky patches in a marriage: much to my irritation, it seems I was the rocky patch in someone else's marriage some years ago.
Whether symptomatic or causal is a moot point, but nevertheless....
I might try to defend myself here, but I won't.
But still, and given my sins, is it hypocrisy to hope now that when other completely seperate folk get into difficulties in their relationships that they can sort things out for the best, whatever the best may be.
Ergo, the wise amongst you will deduce that a godchild's parents are having a difficult time and my prayers go with them.
Compound this with becoming chums with a woman also going through a divorce and the picture of my hypocrisy is almost complete.
Aside from relationships and sex I understand my moral positions better than most. When it comes to this stuff, I'm more at sea than anyone I know. I envy simple certainty.

'Simple certainty' ?

(Will sympathise in person when I get there.)
