Aug. 15th, 2007 12:50 pmOkay, more on bad taste jokes: the more awful and taboo breaking, the better. But first the rant.
I've just taken delivery of 'The Best of Maledicta' edited by Reinhold Aman. ISBN 0-89471-499-6.
Now I have a few issues of the original Journal, and have long held Aman to be a sage of the first order. He did have a bit of a problem, I recall, with the authorities when he got divorced. And I also believe he has a fairly heavy internet rep. But an academic dedicated to 'verbal aggression' and insult (not to mention blasphemy, slang, and the languages of violating taboo) will always have better ammunition when it comes to a war of words. Ergo, it is hardly surprising that he has a bit of a rep.
That's one guy I hope I never cross swords with. (After all, we're bound to disagree.)
Anyway, amongst the thefts from his collection are Jokes, Insults, Poems, Petty Blasphemies, Racial Slurs, Sexist Canards, and a degree of scholarship unusual given the subject matter.
He begins by printing Robert St. Vincent Phillipe's (a pseudonym I fear) 'A Philologist's Prayer'.
Our Teacher who art in English
Proper be Thy Noun;
Thy Adverb come,
Thy Will (and Shall) be done
In pronouns as in Interjections
Give us this day our Passive Verb
And forgive us our Prepositions,
As we decline those who Conjugate against us.
And lead us not into Conjunctions,
But deliver us from Adjectives,
For Thine is the Comma,
And the Period,
And the Colon, forever.
Amen
And interspersed throughout all these entries are jokes, for example:
Why does Helen Keller masturbate with only one hand?
Because she needs the other to moan.
More later....
"she needs the other to moan"

Date: 2007-08-15 06:09 pm (UTC)There is a certain darkness of soul...and I deem we all have it in some greater or lesser amount.
However, the best part of 70 of those nasties is enough to desensitise the most pious-minded follower of Gandhi.
Laughed, we nearly shat...
we have not had such fun since Grandma died,
or Aunt Mabel caught her left tit in the mangle....

So, a baby seal walks into a club--
Again, awful, but there you go.

Date: 2007-08-16 01:50 pm (UTC)I understand the need for limits--but I think I'm okay with people who are of those limits breaking them. For example, I wouldn't tell a black joke or a Jew/Holocaust joke--but I'd probably laugh at Chris Rock telling a black joke, or Mel Brooks telling a Jew/Holocaust joke.
