Aug. 30th, 2007 03:27 pmFound myself in the studio helping Steve out for a bit.
Channel 4 are doing a programme called 'Dumped' on Sunday evening at 9pm.
Players from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra collaborated with Urban Strawberry Lunch to play a number of 'found' instruments fabricated and jury-rigged from recycled bits of detritus from a junkyard.
They're playing Elgar's 'Land of Hope and Glory'.
It's an interesting arrangement, full of unexpected humour, though they won't be appearing on the programme itself. This is for the PR. But you can find the performance from tomorrow:
http//www.channel4.com/dumped.
Trying to keep 'found' and 'fabricated' instruments in key and in tune is really very hard, the guys end up sounding like the Portsmouth Sinfonia.
Who says classical players are pompous and don't have a sense of humour: these guys are amongst the best musicians in existence, though you wouldn't neccessarily know it.
Enjoy.
