Listening to 'Late Junction' on BBC Radio 3 on Thursday as I was driving back from chums, giving other chums a lift home.
It started with a long piece of Indian music that was (as is usual on Late Junction) pretty damn good actually, but nevertheless generic, alas. After dropping the other guests at their home I turned for home and the most extraordinary piece of music came on. The biggest, fattest, most distorted reverb/delay saturated guitar and an androgynous voice singing in an unknown foreign language.
So I waited to hear who it was.
Sigur Ros?

I'm going to have to buy the albums and see if they are of a similar standard.
Perhaps some modern music is worth spending time listening to.

Ben is 23, Eliza 29, Jean-Marc 35... so I hear a lot of stuff that's new. Thanks to Ben I've discovered Soullive, heard the new Radiohead (which I don't much like), started listening to Wax Tailor... Eliza turned me on to Amy Winehouse, Lady Sovreign, Prince Paul... guirex likes Sigur Ros and has overseen my education into the world of 'electro' over the years. Jean-Marc had me listen to 'Architecture in Denmark' (?) and I liked it. As my last post attests, I've recently discovered (for myself) 'nu-soul'. There's lots of good stuff coming out all the time. One must keep one's proverbial ear to the proverbial ground all the time. In music, 'fogeyism' is to be avoided at all costs.
