Good supper last night at Nick's.
Em had to run off to deal with small human after her ex-husband had somehow injured himself. Some folk can't be left in proximity to sharp objects or matches. I think Em's daughter, Holly, at eight-and-three-quarters, is probably more competent than the ex: but then again, she has inherited some of her mother's qualities, thank the Gods.
Topics of conversation were wide ranging, but somehow [profile] shoarthing  picked up on Aaron's riff from Hazel's party about me and older women. It amused Nick and Stephen anyway.
A very nice Claret and a very good Nuits de Saint-Georges from 2002....not a great year by any means, but a very good wine.

The music was mainly New Wave ('78-'81)

I couldn't post Squeeze's 'Tempted' or 'Pulling mussels from a shell' because they are disabled from embedding, but you should find them here:

I'm vaguely jealous. I did enjoy supper with Em & Nick - and Holly - last summer. Please pass on my best regards when you see them next. Did Nick ever taste any of the Cabardès I brought you? I'd be interested to know if he liked it. The price has gone up sharply over here, as the whole world has realised what a good wine it is. It's happening to all my favourite brews : Corbières, Fitou, Madiran, and now Cabardès. It's still much cheaper over here than abroad.

Have a nice sunday.

I think Nick has tasted, but if not I shall bring one with me next time. Thanks for that. You would be welcome to join us were you in the country. Nick keeps a good table. And has a pretty good library too. Stephen trumps in both in the library department however: the Hermit of Petworth is a well-read man. He's also ten years older than the rest of us, so he's had a bit more time. He also 'stepped out' with Hazel, but after a few years she found him wanting or something....it don't do to investigate too fully when chums aren't getting on, and I love 'em both, so....But they can be in the same room together now, which is good. (Though they weren't last night: H was busy with her new(ish) chap who is a decent sort given to Shakespeare, and whom I rather like.)
I am fortunate in my friends.
Have a very agreeable Sunday yourself, m'dear. I'm a-contemplating women: spring is definitely in the air. Oh doom oh doom oh doom. I go now to dhreu my weird, if that's the phrase and spelling.
