Thank the Gods for Naomi Klein.
I know many Jewish folk here in the UK who find what Israel is doing to be abhorrent. And they're not all 'Self-Hating' by any means. As a young man I had a thing for Jewish girls; even going so far once as to be thought of as some sort of secular Jewish person, or at least not contradicting that mistaken assumption in others: like the girls in question's parents, for example. The things we'll do to get a leg-over when young....tchah! At the turn of the century I was a non-Jew in a band of essentially Jewish musicians whom I still count as good friends, and they, and their families, are riven with difference of opinion. (Mind you, I also had a thing for black girls, and the exotic: but neither are in the frame here. To the best of my knowledge, the Exotic ain't bombing the Gaza strip, with intermissions daily: so that the TV reporters get decent lunchbreaks.) But I digress. When I last spoke to my good chum Robin the conclusion was reached that the Israelis are using their history and (for those with memories or historical perspective) relative-moral-superiority-gained-through-victim-status to bully a small and vulnerable enclave of dispossesed indigenes. Robin is very Jewish. And also very English, I suppose.

Naomi Klein is Canadian. I don't suppose I ever shagged a Canadian Jewish girl, or at least not one I can remember. Damn, I've had an underpriviliged life.
Still, whatever my carnal inadequacies, there's a girl who needs petals thrown beneath her feet when she walks.

If anything, this situation has humanised Arabs to a lot of Australians.

'Bout time too. Now if we can get the sleeping majority of the Yanks to regard things in a more nuanced fashion, we could get some of this fixed.

One can but hope.

SWMBO and I have just had a discussion, and if Benicio del Torres is on her list of folk I have to turn a blind eye to, should the occasion ever arise; Naomi Klein has just displaced Kylie on my list.

Very bad form from the Israeli cousins however....given that we're all related. Zionism does appear to be an offshoot of the more disgusting forms of 20th century nationalism. Stupid and evil.

People tend to forget humans are animals. You can rationalize and theorize all you want, but the matter still boils down to that. Despite our higher intelligence and the fact we, as a race have developed wondrous breakthroughs in technology and making incredible tools, we are still animals. We still rut, fight over mates, attack those who threaten our young, and do all of the same things as the rest of the animal kingdom. The fact there are overpopulation problems all over the world means we'll degenerate into tribal warfare. The middle east situation is nothing more than that. People fighting over beliefs, food, space to live, and structures that hold religious value. That won't change, because deep down, each and every one of those people is still tied to their animal instincts, which includes the need to prove dominance of themselves and the group they are living in. Not unless all but one group is wiped out. In which case, the cycle will simply renew itself when the group is forced to splinter off for whatever reasons it needs to do so.

I am yet to make my mind up about Klein. I like some of her conclusions, yet her arguments are painfully inept. That said I agree on the Jewish/exotic front. I have nothing against white girls, I just always end up dating outside of my genetic post-code.
