Now, I don't especially want to upset anyone more than I have to. And please note, for those who are religious, that I'm not mocking, merely using a form: but I thought I ought to post this, because it sums up a number of points of my belief. And though it is some years since I wrote it, I still agree with the sentiments therein.
Sermon from the Pit
Shame to the proud: Their pride is shame.
Sermon from the Pit
Shame to the proud: Their pride is shame.
Shame on the cruel: Shame on them for their inhumanity.
Shame on the unjust:
Their injustice reflects shame upon them.
Shame upon the thoughtless:
To have the gift of mind and to misuse it:
That is shame.
Shame to the intolerant and also to the prejudiced:
Their hatred is shame upon them.
Shame to those who censor and prohibit
And shame on those who limit freedom.
More shameful yet are those who use their freedoms
To deny those freedoms to others:
Theirs is a shameful estate.
Shame unto the wasteful:
Such denies a common need and that is shameful.
Shame unto those who kill in the name of religion:
No God needs the protection of human assassin: shame unto them.
Shame to the dealers of death and destruction:
Theirs is shame: they value life too little.
Shame unto those who stand by and do nothing
When help or effort is in need,
That is shameful indeed.
