I was lectured at, as a boy, by Louis Leakey - discoverer of 'Lucy' in the Olduvai Gorge - (he was a friend of our headmaster and was prevailed upon to speak to our school). Any time I've heard the faintest whisper that things may have been otherwise (I subsequently studied anthropology myself), I thought "Utter Tosh ! That Dr Leakey was such a fine and admirable chap..." I'm gratified that my instinct has been proved right.
